Bit of tape wobble at the start & at times in the whole gig.
Don't be put of, this is 98% very, very good.
Responded well to some audio medicine.
Some talkers around the taper's position, but not to bad overall,
mostly only audible during the quieter sections & between songs.

This comes from Alan's shares, many thanks to him & to the taper.
Sounded okay, good audience recording.
Did some minor restoration & light touches with the remastering.
There are tuning issues with the guitar at various points.
I tried pitch adjusting it to try and make it better, but it didn't.
Also tried some speed adjustments but they didn't help.
So it is not with out issues but it is still a good listen.
Not that many shares around by the band so this most welcome.

Another gold nugget from Alan's vault, much appreciation his way for this,
and to who ever shared it originally.
This suffers from brick walling [distortion] on the vocals.
I have removed as much as possible, some still stubornly remains,
then added some very gentle touches with the remastering to bring it out better.
Couldn't do much dynamically as the disortion would rear up it's ugly head.
Some mild tape hiss remains, but not enough to spoil the music.
A great listen overall & recommended to any one who likes the band.

This is okay to good, not the best compared with what has already been posted here.
So probably for hard core fans only.
Needed a fair amount of restoration & remastering.
Some tape hiss still present, removed as much as possible.
The source tape for this was quite worn and/or the playback transfer deck.
So it sounds a bit "wobbly" now & then.
Some dreaded talkers/shouters shouting at various points.
So....
Not the best listen ever but I've heard many, many worse.

Another from the R.C. archives, much thanks to him for all his shares.
I have to report that this is not in the best of shape.
The source tape is very bad causing stretching which leads to all manner of issues:
Speed is fluctuating badly, some songs I spent ages on attempting repairs.
I did my best with the speed issues.
This has "wobble" in it at various points, gets a little better the further you go,
but you don't escape it that much.
Lots of talkers/shouters near the taper.
This is to be expected being Barrowlands.
The audience are very up for it.
There is a Smiths recording at Barrowlands which shows how lively the crowd can be.
It was filmed and Hand In Glove was broadcast on the most excellent Tube,
which is sadly missed, only Jools Holland left to champion bands/new music.
I am getting off topic.
Okay so I did loads & loads of restoration on this & then some very, very gentle remastering.
It is what it is, nice to have in the collection, but not played often (if ever).
For hard core fans only.
If you partake hope you can stick with it for the whole thing.

Original Notes:-

This is another ace soundboard (or exceptionally good audience recording) from Columbus,  Ohio,
around the time of the ‘Perfume River’ recording.
Don’t panic completeists, there are a number of differences in the setlists, so calm yourself down…
As per ‘Perfume River’ they’re joined on the encores by Sid Griffin who (along with REMs Peter Buck) would jump onstage with anyone in earshot during the mid-eighties.
You’d be right in assuming he’s not the shy retiring type…

Performances are great – this is the five piece version of the band with John Thoman on Guitar…
by far my favourite lineup of the band, for what it’s worth.

Now about the date…Matt Piucci announces that the gig was on the 20th anniversary of Sam Cookes murder,
which would make it December 11th,
but all the references I’ve found state this was November 11th.
‘Perfume River’ was recorded on November 14th (in Rochester).
Unless you were there (and if you were, you’re a jammy bugger) we’ll never know.
And what difference does it make really…this is great music whenever it was recorded!
