Notes:-
This was very kindly sent to me by blog friend Scott.
Here are his comments:
"Just received this cult bootleg in a trade.
In all my years of collecting bootlegs I can honestly say I've never seen this one before.
This was the band coming out of their first period,
and some of these songs from dreamtime would never be played live by the band again.
The album Love was on the horizon and so was America.
That's when they lost a lot of their original fans (myself included).
Mainly, but not totally due to the fact that Ian Astbury had adopted a strong American accent.
By the end of 1986 it was all over for me....too American, too 'rocky'....
they had lost what ever it was that made them great....
but this bootleg reminds us of what a great band they were in the beginning.
We get treated to a couple of Death Cult numbers as well".
Remaster Notes:-
This is a great recording with some flaws.
It ran way to fast in places & had to be slowed down on a track by track basis.
A couple were okay but most needed some adjustments.
The levels needed some sorting out, all but "Nirvana" is done,
that one beat me even after many attempts!
Did some restoration mostly just cleaning up.
There are some drop outs in a few places but nothing to bad to spoil the songs.
In some places it distorted badly and I have done what I can to rectify it.
Used some nosie (hiss) reduction, there are a few places between songs when it is still there,
using anymore would have squashed the dynamics.
It responded nicely to some remastering.
If like Scott & me you like the band from this period then this is for you.

It would be nice to know the source of Scott's FLAC.
ReplyDeleteYes it would Jose, but no info to the best of my knowledge came with the trade.
ReplyDeleteWell, i shared the transfer of my old tape over at Dime on April the 7th 2018. Could it be the origin of the files you worked on?
ReplyDeleteBelow is the content of the info file i created for that upload.

I bought this tape from the first bootleg catalogue i found back in 1986 it was named K7 XUNGA and this tape was item PX035. I always loved this show and this tape played a lot during those days but today it still stands and i think i was able to pull a nice sounding transfer from it. The tape was running a bit fast and so tweaked it and also a bit of eq with Audacity. I must say it was an improvement because the sound is a bit thin on the tape but it responded well to the eq and it got a bit more bass and a more full sound. A bit of hiss is there and i tried noise reduction but did not like any of the side effects of it so i left it the way it is. Still i believe it is not that much.
Don't have any info on source and equipment but i can say that this is a very good capture for the time. Every instrument is clear and even balanced. It is a great audience capture but i leave that to you to judge.
As for the concert the band is found here presenting a lot of new songs that would make Love album. So, this is a great document of Nigel Preston playing songs from that album before being sacked from the band this same month. The Cult went on to record the Love album in July and August of 1985 with Mark Brzezicki (Big Country) on drums. The only track on that album featuring Nigel drumming is She Sells Sanctuary because it had already been recorded and release as a single in May 1985... the rest is history :-)
Enjoy and share
Cheers

Could be your rip Z, it is the most likely source.
DeleteMany thanks for sharing & the info you provided, both much appreciated.
Hi. I came looking for 'Dancing On The Snake' (Milan '85). IIRC you did do a remaster.
ReplyDeleteYes I did, it was long ago & on my short lived other blog.
ReplyDeleteI haven't posted it on here as it is not very good!
However just for you I will sort a repost standby....
