Remaster Notes:-

Here is the remastered version for this gig, sourced from RC's tape.
Many thanks to him for his many shares, what a gent!
This sounds glorious, it turned out excellent.
It ran slightly fast so it has been slowed down by 3%.
The tape flip between 16 & 17 doesn't cause the loss of any music.
Was a joy to remaster, took to it like a duck to water (as the saying goes).
The only negative is that there is some tape hiss still present.
Removed as much as I dared, the music more than makes up for it being there.
Cannot go wrong with this, download & enjoy friends.
An excellent way to sign out for '18.

24 - Warp Nine
25 - Scarlet [John Peel Session]
26 - I Could Make You Happy [John Peel Session]
27 - Under The Bridge [John Peel Session]
28 - Some Girls [John Peel Session]

R.C. Notes:-

Atomic and Union City Blues are from a fierce 7 inch single.
Warp 8 and Warp 9 in electroglide were Alex singing on a band called "One Note Jam",
which I suspect was just Motorcycle Boy calling themselves something different to be experimental (or maybe follow up band).
The files are mostly rips from vinyl & tape transfers.

Remaster Notes:-

The John Peel Session tracks were recorded on 30th August 1987 & broadcast 14th September 1987.

Okay this post caused me to have a long hard think (which is always dangerous),
most of these are officially available from places like Ebay & the excellent Discogs.
However there is no CD release or as far as I can tell no plans for one.
Or any re-issues of the vinyl releases.
So...
Here is a compilation generously shared by RC with r & r by yours truly.
This isn't perfect by any means, some of the source material (especially Peel Session) could be better,
there is a glitch in track 3 at 1:56 - 1:57 for instance, some tracks remastered better than others,
but as a compilation it works pretty well.
Shows what a great band & songwriters they were.
Alex's vocals are so dreamy & lush.
If any one connected to the band object to these being offered here please let me know.
It is never my intention to offer anything that you can get officially,
but the band won't get a penny from Ebay or Discogs hence this compilation.
They will be removed immediately and not shared privately.
Would love these on CD or a collected vinyl box set possibly.
If one gets released these will disappear.
So while we wait for an official release this will keep us going.

Enjoy & try to be kind...

Notes:-

Just finished many shows by The Motorcycle Boy & turned my attention next to some Smiths tapes.
So I started transferring this tape & wow, it sounds great!
Then I compared it with the only other file that I know of by Soundsville.
This new tape sounds much better (I.M.O.) but I am lost as to the source.
It sounds like Paul's soundsville tape only better.
The tinny treble is gone on this version.
So after discussing it with R.C. we present it here for your comments.
Included in the torrent are 2 low rate mp3 for you to download first & see what you think.
You can then download or not as you want.
This transfer is untouched all I did was cut it into separate tracks.
Share freely, do NOT sell, only change to mp3 for your listening please.
Enjoy.

Remaster Notes:-

Nice show from the band.
Considering this is over 30 years old, it sounds very good.
Taper did a top job with the recording.
I restored it, then gentle eq added & here it is.
The editing wasn't that good so I retracked the whole thing.
Crowd/talkers are very quiet around the taper, which makes it even better.
Only negative is that it is lossy.
This is really worth checking out, a great document of a great band.

Enjoy...

Track List:-

01 - Radio Introduction
02 - Love Goes To Building On Fire

05 - Take Me To The River
06 - The Book I Read

10 - Thank You For Sending Me An Angel
11 - Pulled Up
12 - No Compassion
13 - Psycho Killer
14 - I'm Not In Love
15 - Love Is All Around

Lineage:-

TRADE > EAC > FLAC

Notes:-

I put this as possible PreFM because the first track features talking of the radio announcer,
he says Ok give me 10 seconds and then does the count from 10 down before introducing the show.
I couldn't find any more info on this disc other than there are apparently two shows an early and late...
this one being the late show.

Remaster Notes:-

This was in a bad way when I got it.
It was distorting badly.
Took some doing to bring the distortion down & reveal what was underneath.
And underneath was a really nice gig.
Used very gentle touches to fix it up the best it can be.
In between songs there is some tape noise & a little hiss,
when the music plays it isn't an issue.
This is one of my favourite remasters, it is like day to night sound wise.
If you have the original then you can forget listening to that.
This is so much better, listen and see for your self.
My thanks to the taper & various people for the shares till it found it's way to me.

Enjoy...

Remaster Notes:-

Excellent if short set.
This ran to slow, it was speeded up by just over 3%.
Slight "washy" effect show the limitations of the source material.
It isn't perfect by any means, but with what I had to work on it turned out okay.
The only other negative is it is lossy.
I think the last track is missing from this file set.
If this is your taste then this will not disappoint,
unless you are after lossless perfection of course.

28 - Monkey Man

Remaster Notes:-

This is an amazing gig.
Must have been great being there, last night of the tour,
introduced by Debbie Harry, 3 encores.

This recording is really, really good for being 38 years old & audience sourced.
Slight distortion at times, but overall it is fine.

Took a long time to clean up & remaster, tricky in many places,
had to give it loads of TLC and it responded well.
I couldn't live with it edited like it was, so I retracked the whole thing.

The only negatives apart from above is that it is lossy,
it would have been better with a lossless source,
still a very nice listen as is.

There are a few "talkers" at certain points with as always riveting stuff like:
where's my jumper?, I've been stood here for ages etc.
I removed what I could without ruining the flow of the gig.

Terry is on top form with his own way of dealing with things.
The band are as always on top form,
they really were something special live [no pun intended].

So grab a beverage of your choice and be whisked away in my dream time machine.

Enjoy...

Another gig from the R.C. archives, many thanks for his shares.
Needed a fair amount of restoration & remastering.
The first track sounds a bit "wobbly" now & then.
Okay from there on mostly, short wobble bursts now & then,
but mostly good.
Of the '87 era tapes we have this is easily top 3.
So make sure you get this one for your collection.
Talkers are well behaved during the music mostly which always help.

Excellent recording.
This was a real pleasure to work on.
My thanks to the taper & all for posting on various blogs till I found it.
Decided to do fades out/in for the tape flip & the two encore breaks, seemed better to me.
I just added some gentle touches with eq mostly to what was there.
Sounds very nice indeed.
Some talkers noticeable in some tracks, but nothing terrible.
For most of the time they behave themselves.
If you like the band then this is for you, it will not disappoint.

Remaster Notes:-

Huge thanks to Mike Rae for the taping & Zeb for posting, both much appreciated.
Had a few issues with some clicking in the left channel.
The bottom end was very boomy, not Mike's fault just the acoustics of the ballroom.
So removed all the boomy bass.
The vocals at times are a little bright, tamed them down but still brighter than I like.
There are a few talkers near the taper mostly in the left channel, but not to distracting,
for most of the gig they are quiet.
Still all in all a very nice listen even with the above.
If you already have this in your collection then this is a major upgrade,

Remaster Notes:-

This needed a lot of restoration from vinyl noise removal to digital clippings,
repaired a couple of gaps, then did tidying starts/finishes.
Most of it is very good & needed just gentle EQ touches.
Track 7 is very in your face & grates, did my best but this one is rough sounding!
My standout track is "the next life", this sounds lovely, worth the download for that alone.
The only other thing to mention is that it is lossy,

Took a fair amount of restoration, I did what I could to make it more listenable.
Lots of talkers around the taper at various points,
adding there own cheers/whoops/clapping.
Probably one for hardcore fans only, to complete collections.

An average audience recording for it's age.
It is 4 or 5 out of 10.
So don't expect to much & you may enjoy it.
Audiochecker results were mixed, so I left it in flac (which was how it arrived to me).
Took a fair amount of restoration, I did what I could to make it more listenable.
To much reverb from the soundboard on "Sugar Hiccup" it is not from my work.
Lots of talkers around the taper adding there own cheers/whoops/clapping.

Nice sounding show from early '84.
Needed a fair amount of restoration to it before remastering.
There was some distortion issues, fixed most.
Last 3 songs still suffer sadly, by HD it improves but be prepared!
Applied some light EQ, mainly in the bottom end, with a slight touch to the highs.
There are a few minor dropouts here & there but it doesn't spoil the songs.
Nice versions of Pretty Girls Make Graves & Back To The Old House.

Enjoy...

Remaster Notes:-

Great gig, spoilt because it distorted most of the set.
So I have reduced the distortion.
Not all gone but a massive improvement on how it was.
Also did various cleaning up tasks on this as well.
Then applied some light EQ, mostly to bring the bass under control.
Having watched a video of this gig recently I think this came from the VHS Video,
transferred to the CD this comes from.
Whatever it sounds really nice, took a lot of time & work to get it this way.
As always hope you enjoy.

I bought this CD in a records store in May 1995.
The Tracklist at setlist.fm site includes a song more (track #03)
which is not present at discogs site and on the CD itself which
instead of 20 tracks contains only 19 tracks.
The reason is that the track #02 on the CD contain both the songs ("9-9" and "Windout").
Tracks were only ripped from the CD, no additional audio work was made on them.

Enjoy it.

12 - It's A Sin
13 - Domino Dancing
14 - Always On My Mind
15 - Go West
16 - Vocal > > Band Intros > It's Alright

Remaster Notes:-

This was a great show spoilt by the radio chatter.
So...
I have removed all the DJ talking, now only the music remains.
This was done by using fades in & out.
Not a perfect solution, I don't think one exists, so it is what it is.

I also put the songs that go together back together,
they were split into separate tracks on the original.
Personally I prefer the songs in the way you would have heard them had you been present,
everyone has there own preference, no right or wrong, this is mine.

When all that was done I did some light EQ touches.

A few issues:
In "I'm Not Scared" there is a half second "jitter",
this is on the original, nothing I have done to it,
goes as soon as you hear it, so no real problem.
On "West End Girls" from 2:20 to 2:30 there are more "jitters".
These you will notice big time, present on the original.
On "It's A Sin" & "Domino Dancing" there is another half second jitter, nothing serious.
I have no idea how to rectify these errors,
if anyone knows please get in touch, I would be most interested to learn.

There are extensive original notes in the download for you to read if you so wish,
from the original seeder(s) on Dime.
My thanks to the taper & seeders for this ending up with me.
Hope you like it.
Enjoy,

Remaster Notes:-

No lineage on this one, arrived to me as flac.
Short but sweet this one.
Sounded over bright, rather harsh.
Tamed it down & cleaned it up & gentle eq, job done.
First track has some tape issues but soon settles down,
some issues in metal mickey, but soon goes.
Guess the tape was in a worn conditioned before being digitized.
Nice listen even with the few issues mentioned.

What can one say?
It's The Jam & it sounds great.
If this is your thing you will want this.
Needed minimal work, just brought out what was there.
The only negatives are that it is lossy.
And the second lot of tracks are not as well recorded as the first 16,
still sounding good though.
If I find a lossless source will redo this.
Till then this is as good as it gets.

My Notes:-

Another cocteau's gig which suffers from distortion (brick walling).
So I have left it alone.
Beyond my skill set to fix.
Loads of drunk people shouting out at the band around the taper,
which doesn't help when listening.
Again for hardcore fans & collectors probably, not the casual listener.

03 - Rococo
04 - Pandora
05 - Musette And Drums
06 - From The Flagstones
07 - Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops

My Notes:-

Of the info I have obtained it seems like peole think this is an FM radio broadcast.
Found a cover for it with FM as source.
It's not.
The whole gig suffers from brickwalling (distortion).

It doesn't sound like an FM recording, no station would broadcast it like it is.
At the end of the songs you can hear clapping & chatting all round what I believe is the taper.

At the end of "Pandora" you can hear 2 people talking in the left channel.

Liz's voice distorts all the way through.
Again things like this would not happen on a radio broadcast.

This is an audience recording.

I am posting this "as is" untouched by myself.
I tried & fail to remove the brickwalling.
The whole thing is harsh sounding, so for hardore fans & collectors only!

Notes:-

Recorded at the Kilburn National Ballroom, London, 11th October 1996.

Remaster Notes:-

This is a solid recording coming from a FM broadcast.
First time performance of "Picnic" so worth a listen for that alone.
There is slight distortion from "Saturday Night" onwards,
this was on the original and is not caused by the remastering.
Tried to tame it the best I could, shouldn't spoil your enjoyment of the songs.
This was very bass heavy and needed adjustment.
Other than that just gentle touches to bring out what was there.
Only other negative is that it is lossy.
Hope you enjoy...

Remaster Notes:-

Recorded live at the RPM Warehouse in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 17th, 1995.
This is a great recording, one of my favourite Suede gigs.
This needed a good dose of hiss reduction, some remains,
to remove more would have lost to much dynamics,
shouldn't bother to much, the performance makes up for any short comings.
Remastering went great a pleasure to work with, not blowing my own trumpet,
but this sounds fantastic!
Only negative is that it is lossy, will keep searching for lossless source.

Notes:-

Taken from a 1st generation tape.

Remaster Notes:-

This is an excellent recording.
Wish I knew taper details so I could thank them.
There are virtually no talkers around the tapers posistion.
The crowd sound very quiet, guess they were waiting for the headliners.
Because of this the recording is really nice.

This needed very little doing to it.
Just gave it some bottom end mainly & some other tweaks,
a retrack and job done.
I chose to do some fades while retracking,
also some minor editing, think it makes for a better listen.
Turned out really well.
You will NOT be disappointed with this show.

Notes From REM Timeline:-

This show can be found on the CD bootleg 'T.G.I.F' minus the encore.
'Round Is Funny' is an Oh-Ok song which is sung when the band have equipment problems.
They play 'Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)' twice due to equipment problems during the song in the 1st set.

Remaster Notes:-

Great show, a really good listen if you like early R.E.M.
Needed some minor restoration & some light EQ to make it sweet.
I retracked the whole thing.
Still problems with the source tape dropping now & then,
did my best to balance it out, some audio drop outs I couldn't fix,
needs someone with more skills than I.
Rather than tracks just ending sharply I have faded out & then in.
Better that way I think, sounds neater.
Still overall a worthwhile remaster.
Hope you enjoy.

Remaster Notes:-

A nice audience recording, as is usual no taper details.
He or she did a good job of capturing the performance.
Very little chatter, which makes for a great recording.

Audiochecker says lossless so this is in flac.

This needed a lot of editing, probably the most of any remaster this year.
There were gaps in the songs that needed fixing, it went okay but not brilliant,
you will hear some of the fixes, it will be obvious, so I give myself 5/10 for the editing.
I ended up having to do a complete retrack of the whole show.

It ran slow but to different degrees so needed lots of speed adjustments.
The actual remastering went great.
Even with it's issues this is a 9/10 sounding show, it will not disappoint.
Sounds wonderful.
I have heard soundboards that are worse than this,
for audience recordings this is about as good as it is.

Hope you enjoy this, it took many hours to complete.

09 - Handsome Devil
10 - Miserable Lie

Steve Notes:-

This is from a 1st or 2nd Gen tape that I got in 1983.

Remaster Notes:-

Had this on my drive since ages ago & finally finished it,
so here it is, hope you enjoy.

This is a great recording.
Don't know taper details sadly.
This came from Soundsville Steve via smiths torrents,
both deserve a huge thanks for sharing.

No lineage given.

This is a bit special:

The last time "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" was played live.

A fumbled version of "Reel Around The Fountain" was performed,
with a great save of the day by Mozz to rescue it by the end.
And more besides, read below notes from the excellent PJLM.

This took some restoration & remastering very well.
It was badly balanced with most of the sound in the left channel.
Added eq as was needed.
Retracked the show while I was working on it.

The one big annoying thing with this is the *!!** talkers in the right channel.
They chip in with various chat, earth shattering stuff like "I'm going to the bar".
"I'll meet you hear, I'm going for a drink".
They appear and disappear at will.
There is some chatter lowish in the recording on both channels.
Shame it's there, but for the chat this would be 10/10.

This really is a must if you are into the band.

PJLM Notes:-

This was the Smiths' first major support slot with fellow Mancunians The Fall as headliners.
The beginning of the concert was a bit shaky,
with a few mistakes in "Accept Yourself" and a terrible version of "Reel Around The Fountain",
but they managed to get everything right in the second half of the concert, which was very well received by the audience.
Entering stage, Morrissey asked the audience "Are you ready?" before going into "You've Got Everything Now".
For some reason, after the song he is heard saying "Good grief!".
"Accept Yourself", which was very likely being performed for the first time ever,
contained quite a few lyrical differences to the versions that were later released.
After "...time is against me now", Morrissey repeated the line in falsetto and yelped a few times,
creating a strange but interesting effect.
Also, plans in this early version, like dreams, "have a knack of not coming true" instead of falling through "... as so often they do".
One difference with the familiar lyrics was probably a mistake by Morrissey,
as he sang "...so how do I feel about the past / they make me awkward and plain...".
The latter line, relating to his shoes, was obviously meant to be sung later.
This probably led the uncomfortable Morrissey to make a similar mistake further down,
singing "when will you accept (mumble) say" instead of "everyday you must say".
Of course everyone in the audience was oblivious to this as nobody knew the song...
the band was probably struggling with a newly written track they were not yet accustomed to.

The Smiths were just back from London where they had recorded their first session for John Peel ,
so it's no surprise that the version of "What Difference Does It Make?" performed at the Electric Ballroom
was very similar to the Peel session which is found on the "Hatful Of Hollow" compilation.
It contained lines such as "I can surely rely on you" and "I'm so very tired" that were changed by the time the song was recorded as a single and made it on the debut album.
The most striking difference in the early version of "Reel Around The Fountain" which was performed next is the drum roll heard occasionally as Morrissey sings "I wouldn't say no".
Morrissey suffered serious voice and tune problems in the first verses, but caught up before the end.

At this point in time Morrissey wasn't very talkative on stage...
he would shyly say "thank you" and announce songs by simply saying their titles.
The next track however was announced as "Four sad words... 'These Things Take Time'".
It was performed with the drum roll intro as heard on the aborted Troy Tate outtakes.
More interestingly, it included significantly different lines in the first verse:
"you took me behind a dis-used railway line "you took me to (undecipherable) / and (undecipherable) / I'm saved, I'm saved, you took my hand".

As the show progressed and the audience reception got warmer,
Morrissey became more comfortable so the next song was introduced with "Somebody streak... 'I Don't Owe You Anything'".
The song was probably seeing its live debut.
Morrissey then became even more talkative,
introducing the next song with "This is our record which you might as well buy... it's just been released by Rough Trade... 'Hand In Glove'... 'Hand In Glove'!... thank you... 'Hand In Glove'!!".
After the performance he matter of factly said "So there!" and announced the next track.

"The Hand That Rocks The Cradle", which was performed for the last time ever,
had already evolved from the version performed a few months earlier,
but still contained differences to the one that would be released on the debut album.
These differences of both musical and lyrical nature were found near the end of the song,
from the "Climb upon my knee sonny boy" line to the end.
Morrissey then announced "Handsome Devil" as "Miserable Lie".
After the song, he corrected himself by saying "Oh look, I made a mistake, that wasn't 'Miserable Lie', that was 'Handsome Devil'.
This is 'Miserable Lie'... as if you care...".
By the end of it the audience had really warmed up to this support band and the Smiths were cheered profusely as they made it off stage.

Tickets were £3.00

A good recording of the complete concert is traded amongst collectors, on homemade cd-r's and on the internet,
occasionaly with artwork under the title "Swept Mystical Air".
Fans should be aware that a slightly inferior sounding higher generation transfer to tape from digital is also limitedly circulated on the internet.

Notes:-

This was very kindly sent to me by blog friend Scott.
Here are his comments:

"Just received this cult bootleg in a trade.
In all my years of collecting bootlegs I can honestly say I've never seen this one before.
This was the band coming out of their first period,
and some of these songs from dreamtime would never be played live by the band again.
The album Love was on the horizon and so was America.
That's when they lost a lot of their original fans (myself included).
Mainly, but not totally due to the fact that Ian Astbury had adopted a strong American accent.
By the end of 1986 it was all over for me....too American, too 'rocky'....
they had lost what ever it was that made them great....
but this bootleg reminds us of what a great band they were in the beginning.
We get treated to a couple of Death Cult numbers as well".

Remaster Notes:-

This is a great recording with some flaws.
It ran way to fast in places & had to be slowed down on a track by track basis.
A couple were okay but most needed some adjustments.
The levels needed some sorting out, all but "Nirvana" is done,
that one beat me even after many attempts!
Did some restoration mostly just cleaning up.
There are some drop outs in a few places but nothing to bad to spoil the songs.
In some places it distorted badly and I have done what I can to rectify it.
Used some nosie (hiss) reduction, there are a few places between songs when it is still there,
using anymore would have squashed the dynamics.
It responded nicely to some remastering.
If like Scott & me you like the band from this period then this is for you.

Nirvana...
